Kauai High School’s boys golf team placed seventh out of 10 teams at the 2019 David S. Ishii Foundation Golf Championships boys tournament. The two-day tournament wrapped up Friday at the Waikoloa Kings’ Course in Waimea, Big Island.
Representing the Kauai Interscholastic Federation, the Red Raiders team collectively scored 138-over-par 714 (349-365).
Hawaii Baptist Academy of the Interscholastic League of Honolulu won the team championship, shooting 42-over-par 618 (310-308). Mid-Pacific of the ILH was second at 76-over-par (328-324), and Iolani of the ILH was third at 79-over-par (323-332).
Playing as an individualist, Island School’s Niki Upson was the KIF’s best golfer of the tournament. Upson finished 26-over-par 170 (85-85) and placed 46th on the individual leaderboard.
Also playing as individualists, Kapaa High School’s Kekoa Eisenhour finished 30-over-par 174 (87-87) and placed 51st, and Island School’s James Pratt finished 42-over-par 186 (94-92) and placed 74th.
Christian Ganir was Kauai High’s best golfer. Ganir finished 30-over-par 174 (84-90) and was 52nd on the individual leaderboard.
Jaydon Kyono shot a 31-over-par 175 (85-90), Jayson Serrano was 40-over-par 184 (94-90), Braeden Yokoyama was 48-over-par 192 (97-95) and Mosiah Bautista was also 48-over-par 192 (86-106).
Mid-Pacific’s Jake Sequin was the individual winner, shooting 5-under-par 139 (68-71). Roosevelt High School’s Kolbe Irei was second at 3-under-par 141 (70-71), and Kealakehe High School’s Ethan Jaehn and Maryknoll School’s Peter Jung both finished 1-over-par 145 (74-71).
