LIHUE — Two accomplished Kauai Dance Center students will take on the “Tarantella” on Saturday during the “Every Dancer is a Star” show’s final weekend at the Eyes Wide Open Production Arts Center in Nawiliwili.
Tenured students Annabelle Fields and Shaylyn Silva have both been studying with Jennifer Bell-Grey for more than a decade, since they were keiki. This year, they’ve been named 2019’s top Red Tutu ballerinas.
And while they’re dancing to the orchestral score composed by Gottschalk and Kay, Fields will also be celebrating her 14th birthday.
“The dance showcase features every student performer at Kauai Dance Center,” said Bell-Grey. “The repertoire includes classical ballet vignettes from ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and solos from the Tchaikovsky’s ballets ‘Swan Lake’ and ‘Nutcracker,’” she said.
“Traditional classical Spanish dances, original student choreography to music by Lindsey Stirling, theater dance to Nina Salmon and other contemporary artists” will also be presented.
Saturday’s show is broken into two segments — children performers at 12:15 p.m., and teens at 5:15 p.m..
Reservations are required for the 100-seat theater. Tickets are available at Magic Dragon Toy and Art Supply in Princeville and at KauaiDanceCenter.com.
