She was vending her gardenia lei at the Thursday Market at Kukui Grove Center, and is excited about bringing her lei and banana stalk carriers to the first Tuesday market opening at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Poipu Shopping Village with Jenn Ortal…gotta go check that one out.

Coach Mits Yokotake had to leave his guitar home, and Warren Perry came out of his Lawai Valley comfort zone to take part in the protocol of the unveiling of the Kaumuali‘i depiction at the Kauai Museum…congratulations to Chucky Boy Chock, Maryanne Kusaka (she was also a nominee for Kauai Outstanding Older American honors!), and the Kauai Museum ohana on a great event where guests were treated to performances by Kumu Hula Leina‘ala Pavao Jardin and Halau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala!
Up at Kukui Grove Center, it was a nice reminder that the Kauai Visitor Industry Charity Walk takes place this Saturday, starting with registration at 6:30 a.m. at the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields, and people can still sign up for the huge event that benefits about 60 (more than 40 were at the Saturday walk countdown!) of Kauai’s nonprofit organizations.
People got a jump-start on Mother’s Day shopping (Leah Rapozo had kodomo no hi — Children’s Day Aloha Baked goodie boxes) at the craft fair benefiting Sarah Tochiki and the Kauai All-Island Band (they’re planning a Japan trip this year!). Leah said she’s been doing deliveries only of the goodie boxes (available in “Brownie” or “Ferrero Rocher”) for the last five years, but felt it was time to bring it out to the public.
