LIHUE — The Kauai General Plan Update 2018 is the recipient of the American Planning Association’s Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan.
“This national recognition exemplifies the excellence and good planning conducted within our county by the hardworking men and women of our Planning Department, including their grit and tenacity in withstanding criticism throughout the process,” said Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami.
Kawakami, Managing Director Michael Dahilig, and Councilmember Luke Evslin joined the members of the Planning Department at the 2019 National Planning Conference in San Francisco this week to accept the award.
The APA jury commended the plan’s approach, consisting of 19 streamlined policies that address many of the issues that impact the island, such as traffic and tourism congestion, rising housing costs and the potential future impacts of climate change and sea level rise.
Would the Garden Island News be so kind as to publish a synopsis of these 19 streamlined policies that address the issues so that we, the taxpayers, could be better informed as to the proposed solutions to these problems.
