Kumie Simao
Hope Grace Kumie Simao, 10, of Kalaheo, passed away at her home in Kalaheo on Feb. 22, 2019.
Born on March 17, 2008 in Punahou, Oahu, she was preceded in death by great-grandparents Manuel (Kumie) Simao, Mary Duque, Thomas Tokioka and Gilbert (Dorothy) Barretto.
She is survived by father Jonathan Barretto, mother Darrellyne (Jason Keahi) Caldeira Jr., brothers Micah Barretto of Kapaa and Noah Simao of Kalaheo, sister Jordan Simao of Kalaheo, grandparents Darrel (Diana) Simao, Donna (John) Takiguchi and Patrick (Jenniffer) Barretto, great-grandmother Grace Tokioka, and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, April 13, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m., where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The family suggests casual attire.

Matsuno Matsumoto Kaohi
Matsuno Matsumoto Kaohi, 90, of Kalaheo, passed away on March 22, 2019, at her home. Born on Dec. 11, 1928, she was a seamstress for Lauhala Sportswear and enjoyed working at Joni Hana and Camp House Grill.
She was preceded in death by husband Benjamin Pupu Kaohi and parents Sanku and Uta Matsumoto.
She is survived by daughters Jolynn (Rodney) Chew and Janis (Eric) Kane, son Matthew Kaohi, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and sisters Naoe Ishii of Oahu and Asano Suizu of Maui.
A celebration of life will be on Monday, April 15, at 10 a.m. at the Hanapepe Hawaiian Congregational Church, with a luncheon to follow.

Francis Genichi Tafua
Francis Genichi Tafua, 40, passed away on March 26, 2019, in Honolulu.
He was born on April 28, 1978, in American Samoa.
He was a loyal front of house runner and bartender at Roy’s Eating House 1849.
He was preceded in death by father Joe Leo Tafua, and grandparents Leo and Lualuania Tafua and Genichi and Hatsuyo Kamiya.
He is survived by son Leo Garza-Tafua, mother Rachael Tafua, brother Daniel (Malia) Tafua, sisters Jonell (Vernon) Kaohelauii and Jannah Tafua, one nephew, seven nieces and one grandniece.
A celebration of life will be he held on Saturday, April 13, at the Kekaha Boat House, with services from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and a celebration of life at 4 p.m.
The family suggests aloha attire.
Jonathan Ibanez
Jonathan Ibanez passed away on March 14, 2019, at Straub Medical Center, at the age of 34.
He is survived by wife Lea May Ibanez, daughter Ysabelle Ibanez of Kapaa, parents Villamor and Visitacion Ibanez of Kapaa, siblings Cathleen (David) Barton of Kapaa and Joanna Ibanez of Kapaa, niece Daileen Barton of Kapaa, along with many aunties, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents William Sr. and Caridad Butulayan, and paternal grandparents Fruto and Pacitia Ibanez.
He was born on Nov. 9, 1984, in Lihue, to Villamor and Visitacion Ibanez. He graduated from Kapaa High School in 2002 and Kauai Community College in 2017 with a degree in hospitality and tourism. He married Lea May in 2015. He worked for the Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas.
His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Kapaa from 9 a.m., with a reception to follow at Kealia Farms.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
