Congratulations to Puhi’s Punana Leo O Kauai Hawaiian-immersion preschool staff, parents and keiki on the completion (not pau, yet — got more coming) of the John “Prime” Hina mural that graces the walls of its main buildings!
This is Hina’s third project on Kauai — the others being the mural on the walls of the building occupied by Kauai Habitat for Humanity in Hanapepe, and the other being the connector of the first and second floors of the county Department of Water building in Lihue. And, as Kamaluokalani Almodova (love that name!) said, “It’s for everyone.”
Kamaluokalani said the Punana Leo project started when keiki were invited to be part of the Hanapepe mural, and she invited Hina to come speak to the parents about the keiki’s involvement. Following the meeting, he agreed to do a mural for Punana Leo.
Congratulations, too, to Sean Doi (when is the next “Shining Stars?”) and Sherry Gonsalves on being honored as the Kauai District Teacher of the Year, and Kauai District Principal of the Year, respectively, by the state Legislature!
Melissa McFerrin-Warrack (you gotta check out the new overhead fans in the Kukui Grove Center food court!) said Veronica Lovesy and Shelley Gerardo will be having a spring fling plant sale Saturday to benefit the American Cancer Society Relay For Life that will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 13 and 14, at the Hanapepe Stadium soccer fields.
