LIHUE — Kapaa tennis players Hannah Collins-Doijode teamed with Leila Nelson to pick up the Warriors’ sole win Saturday during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation tennis matches hosted by Kapaa High School at the Timbers Resort Hokuala tennis courts.
The Collins-Doijode/Nelson duo picked up its win on the Girls Second Doubles court with a three-set win over the Kauai pair of Miya Reese and Emily Melchor, 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-3.
Kauai girls finished with a 4-1 series win while the boys went 5-0.
On the Girls First Singles court, Kapaa’s Sydney Nice marked a pair of wins over Anna Burkman, but Burkman, going through replacement rackets in the bout, finished with a 6-2, 6-0 win.
Tia Fulks controlled the Girls Second Singles arena with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kapaa’s Kiara Dolino.
Moving to the doubles courts, Kauai’s Hoku Iseri and Katherine O’neill were 6-2, 6-0 winners over the Warrior pair of Mary Jane Uribe and Wailana Makepa, and Kauai took the Girls Third Doubles contest when Kirra Carvalho and Amy Khoang outlasted the Kapaa pair of Analani Bacon and RubyJane Udaundo, 7-5, 7-6 (8).
Moving to the boys’ courts, Kauai’s Trevor Carbonel was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Mason Buick on the Boys First Singles floor, and Raider Dwayne Ancajas got past Kapaa’s Thomas Capelli, 6-1, 7-5 on the Boys Second Singles courts.
On the boys’ doubles arena, Kauai’s Thane Ochoco paired with Christian Teves to down Kapaa’s duo of Michael Amoyo and Ian Sotelo, 6-1, 6-2 on the Boys First Doubles floor.
Kauai’s Micah Matsunaga teamed with Thomas Vetter to take the Boys Second Doubles 6-1, 6-0 over the Kapaa duo of Glenn Aguada and Chazer Agbayani, and Kauai wrapped up the day when Tanner Lee and Dhemie Dalayao teamed up to defeat Kapaa’s Kaimani Dryer and Carlos Ygov-Tapia, 6-2, 6-1 on the Boys Third Doubles court.
The next KIF tennis matches take place March 30 when Kauai High School hosts Island School at the Timbers Resort Hokuala courts starting at 9 a.m. Kapaa will travel to the Waimea High School courts for a 9 a.m. meeting.
