HONOLULU — City workers have repainted a Honolulu crosswalk that was accidentally erased on the same stretch of road where a fatal pedestrian accident occurred earlier this year.
Hawaii News Now reports crews repainted the Hawaii Kai Drive crosswalk Friday.
The city accidentally removed the crosswalk in May. For months, residents asked the city to re-paint it, but the city didn’t say when it would.
In January, 86-year-old Maqbul Ur Rahman died while trying to cross the road about 50 yards (45 meters) from where the crosswalk used to be.
Police say Rahman wasn’t in a marked crosswalk. He was in a poorly lit area at 6:45 p.m. when he was hit by a black Jaguar driven by a 24-year-old man.
Speed and alcohol aren’t believed to be factors in the crash.
