KOLOA — A 25-year-old Lawai woman was arrested Thursday following a two-car crash on Koloa Road on Wednesday night.
About 10:35 p.m., the driver of a 2002 Suzuki sedan was westbound on Koloa Road near Old Mill Place when she apparently crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming 1989 Toyota pickup truck, according to a county press release.
The driver of the sedan fled the scene on foot before first responders arrived.
The front-seat passenger of the sedan, a 27-year-old woman from New Jersey, sustained serious injuries to her head as a result of the crash. She was medevaced to Queen’s Medical Center for further treatment, where she currently remains in stable condition.
During their preliminary investigation, officers of the Kauai Police Department Traffic Safety Section identified the driver of the sedan as Carley Kitzman. She was arrested Thursday on suspicion of being involved in an accident involving serious bodily injury. She was released pending further investigation.
There should have been some mention of the driver / passengers in the pickup truck. What happened to them? This is a big oversight in the report.
