Nalani DeSilva
Yukie-Lynn Nalani DeSilva of Kapaa passed away at Queen’s Medical Center on Jan. 26, 2019, at the age of 48. Born on Dec. 7, 1970, she was an advertising sales assistant for The Garden Island newspaper and an active CrossFitter at Kauai CrossFit.
She was preceded in death by father Yukio Higashi, brothers-in-law Alan and Shannon DeSilva, and sister-in-law Lynette Meatoga.
She is survived by husband of 29 years Kevin DeSilva, daughter Moana (Chris) Baltazar, son Dustyn (Michaela Manago) DeSilva, hanai son Kalani Kahaunaele, mother Olinda Higashi, sisters Maile (Jonah) Cummings and Anolani (Kelo Rivera) Higashi, brothers Gordon (Danice) Higashi, Alvin (Deborah) Higashi, Dean (Mel) Higashi, Blaine Kaneholani and Kenny (Kana Kaohi) Meatoga, in-laws Wayne and Rita DeSilva, brother-in-law Travis (Lisa) DeSilva, and grandchildren Cijay, Cyris, Christyn and Chloey Baltazar.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, March 9, at Anahola Beach Park, with visitation at 10 a.m. and services to follow.
George M. Taguma
George M. Taguma, 90, of Kalaheo, passed away on Jan. 18, 2019, in Kalaheo.
Born on March 7, 1928 in Makaweli, he was a retired radio frequency telemetry technician and also served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by parents David and Matsuko Taguma, brothers Tsuneo and Victor Taguma, sisters Gladys (Larry) Nagata and Helen (David) Kanno, and grandson Eben Kaneshiro.
He is remembered with love by the mother of his children, Sylvia Bracklin, daughters Valerie (Derwin) Kaneshiro of Kauai, Lori Taguma of Wisconsin, Carol (PeeWee) Fergerstrom of Kauai, grandchildren Ahren (Shantel) Kaneshiro, Monique (Shane) Estrella, Summer (Daniel) Kaiawe, Kasey (Sway) Fergerstrom, great-grandchildren Jeni Kaneshiro, Kamalei Estrella, Kilinahe Estrella, Jastey Fergerstrom, Kaezi Fergerstrom &Haezyn Fergerstrom, brother Lawrence (Nanako) Taguma of Kauai, caregivers Imelda Lumabao, Karla Jamoraban and Cora Martinez, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Gordon Ray Soares Sr.
Gordon Ray Soares Sr., 64, of Kalaheo, passed away on Dec. 27, 2018, at his home in Kalaheo.
Born on December 16, 1954, in Lihue, he was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator with Operator Engineering Union Local 3.
He was preceded in death by son Gordon R. Soares, parents Albert and Harriett Soares Sr., sisters Antoinette Arizo and Irene Tupou, brother-in-law Filipie Tupou, and in-laws Clarence Souza Sr. and Jeannette Matsumura.
He is survived by wife Darlene Souza Soares of Kalaheo, sons Gordon (Rhoda) Soares Jr. of Kauai, David (Misty) Soares of Kauai, grandchildren Kalen (Jenna Cadiente), Maegan, David Jr., Devin and McKenna Soares, brothers Albert Soares Jr. of Lihue and Edward Roger Soares Sr. of Kapaa, sister Cindy (Michael) Bandman of Kauai, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 2, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m., where Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. The family suggests aloha attire.

Edita ‘Didi’ N. Lung
Edita “Didi” N. Lung, 61, of Las Vegas and Wailuku, Maui, passed away Jan. 13, 2019 in Las Vegas. She was born on Oct. 3, 1957, in Santa Ana, Manila, Philippines. She had been a resident of Nevada since 2008.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, at the Paia Community Center main hall on Maui.
She graduated from Kauai High School. She moved to Oahu, where she attended and graduated from travel school. She declined a job offer in Alaska with Delta Airlines, after she had met her soon-to-be husband. She worked for Budget Rent-A-Car for many years. She later chose a career path in mortgage loans, which she retired as an executive senior loan officer. Her greatest joy was her family, and she loved to craft and play keno.
She is survived by husband John R. Lung, children Jillayne (Kalani) Ching and Darren (Faye) Lung, granddaughters Kaylen and Bailey Ching, grandsons Draysen Lung (son of Mary Ann), Blake Ching and Robert Lung, siblings Calvin (Liberty) Corpuz, Rose (Calvin) Lalin, Evelyn (Donald) Gonsalves, Julie (Michael) Broyles, Peter (Margie) Corpuz, Jay Dela Cruz and Josephine “Jo” Eslit-Gerardo, 11 nieces and 16 nephews.
She was preceded in death by grandson Drake Lung (son of Mary Ann), brothers Larry Corpuz and George Corpuz, and parents Simplicio and Pacita N. Corpuz.
Adam Bryan Pakele Carvalho
Adam Bryan Pakele Carvalho, 27, of Hanamaulu, passed away on Feb. 11, 2019, at his home.
Born on April 22, 1991 in Lihue, he was a #1 stunna.
He is preceded in death by his father Simon Adam Carvalho
He is survived by significant other Macylynn “Choko” Brown, son Adam Carvalho Jr., daughters Zariah Carvalho and Pohai Brown, mother Louise “Franque” Oclit, sisters Fendelyn (Bobby) Cummings, Sherai (Brian) Navor, Gerilynn Palabay and Jasmine (Kiani) Palabay, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 16, at Kapaa First Hawaiian Church from 9 to 9:45 a.m., where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Scattering of ashes will follow at Hanamaulu Beach Park and Kapaa Beach House, with a celebration of life to follow.
The family suggests casual attire, and advises wearing red shirts as that was his favorite color.
