Nalani DeSilva
Yukie-Lynn Nalani DeSilva of Kapaa passed away at Queen’s Medical Center on Jan. 26, 2019, at the age of 48. Born on Dec.7, 1970, she was an advertising sales assistant for The Garden Island newspaper and an active CrossFitter at Kauai CrossFit.
She was preceded in death by father Yukio Higashi, brothers-in-law Alan and Shannon DeSilva, and sister-in-law Lynette Meatoga.
She is survived by husband of 29 years Kevin DeSilva, daughter Moana (Chris) Baltazar, son Dustyn (Michaela Manago) DeSilva, hanai son Kalani Kahaunaele, mother Olinda Higashi, sisters Maile (Jonah) Cummings and Anolani (Kelo Rivera)Higashi, brothers Gordon (Danice) Higashi, Alvin (Deborah) Higashi, Dean (Mel) Higashi, Blaine Kaneholani and Kenny (Kana Kaohi) Meatoga, in-laws Wayne and Rita DeSilva, brother-in-law Travis (Lisa) DeSilva, and grandchildren Cijay, Cyris, Christyn and Chloey Baltazar.
A celebration of life will be Saturday, March 9, at Anahola Beach Park, with visitation at 10 a.m. and services to follow.
Geraldine M. Hamada
Geraldine M. Hamada, 74, of Lihue, passed away on Jan. 16, 2019, in Honolulu.
Born on Aug. 20, 1944, on Molokai, she was a retired preschool teacher with Kapaa Head Start.
She was preceded in death by parents Kenneth and Irene Tsukano, and brother Clinton Tsukano.
She is survived by husband Howard T. Hamada of Lihue, son Kris M. Hamada of Wailuku, brothers Kenneth Ebina of New Mexico and Richard (Emily) Ebina of Honolulu, sisters Betty Whipple of Arizona, Genevieve (Fred) Kaneshiro of Pearl City, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Garden Island Mortuary chapel in Lawai from 10 a.m., where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

David George Akre
David George Akre was born on Sept. 1, 1955 in Bellingham, Washington.
He passed away unexpectedly Jan. 16, 2019, in Kalaheo.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Julie, son Bryce, daughter Kelli (Arin Smith), and grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m. at Kauai Christian Fellowship in Poipu.
Bernice Lavinia Leimomi Miyamoto
Bernice Lavinia Leimomi Miyamoto, 86, of Eleele, passed away on Feb. 2, 2019, in Waimea.
She was born on June 26, 1932, in Koloa.
She was preceded in death by husband Katsumi Miyamoto, father Lawrence Hamauku Akona, mother Mary Tluczek, stepfather Joseph Tluczek, brothers Lawrence Jr., Ronald, Walter “Sonny” and Butchie Tluczek, and infant sister Eldora Akona.
She is survived by sons Guy (Marva) Miyamoto of Washington and Lon (Valerie) Miyamoto of Eleele, daughters Lee Anne (David) Miyashiro of Kalaheo and Donna (Steven) Okihara of Eleele, grandchildren Sharla Aviguetero, Cy Miyashiro, Jodi Villanueva, Tysen and Kasey Okihara, David Cain, Loren McPherson, Kai Miyamoto, Lanell, Mandy, Hayley and Alyssa Miyamoto, Lacy Santos, great-grandchildren Sandy, Eli, Hoku, Barak and Kaina Aviguetero, Ashlee Miyashiro, Aubree Nakazawa, Bronx and Haven Villanueva, Katie and Kami Okihara, Thomas and Aubrey Cain, Quinn, Enora and Valen McPherson, Brittni Fujioka, Kody Gardner, Keane and Keanu Hosaka, Gaelen, Lexi, Nakoa and Kenui Bostick, Kayla, Kaylee, Kaikela and Kaili Aquino, 12 great-great-grandchildren, brother Robert (Charlotte) Tluczek of California, sister Janice (Thomas) Wynn of Pennsylvania, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services are planned. The family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

Thomas Hashimoto
Thomas Hashimoto, 84, of Kilauea, peacefully passed away at his daughters’ home in Kilauea on Feb. 12, 2019. He was born in Haena on July 13, 1934, and retired from National Tropical Botanical Gardens, Limahuli, Haena as a foreman in landscape maintenance, and was a caretaker for the late Juliet Rice Wichman family estate in Haena.
He was preceded in death by parents Joseph Mahiula Sr. and Dora (Poe) Hashimoto, brothers John (Jack) Hashimoto, George (Gabby) Hashimoto Sr. and Joseph Mahiula Hashimoto Jr., sister Violet Hashimoto Goto, sisters-in-law Florence Kaala Hashimoto and Helen Hashimoto, son-in-law Howard “Kachi” Tadashi Yokotake Jr., and nephew Thomas Kaina Hideo Hashimoto.
He is survived by wife Annie Tai Hook Hashimoto, children Thomasine Leilani Romas, Valerie Ann Leolani Yokotake, Haven (Bert) Iwalani Dawbarn, Taryn (Kelii Alapai) Nalani Hashimoto, Dancette (Patrick) Lani Green, Kimberly (Ronnie Gorospe) Wailani Tai Hook, Shann (Kelly Boro) Anolani Hashimoto, Junedale Ualani Hashimoto and Jodi Keala Hashimoto-Omo, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Wanda Hashimoto and Travis Leimomi Tubal, brothers-in-law Wilbert “Afuk” (Mieko) Tai Hook and Henry (Rikki) Tai Hook Jr., hanai children Chipper and Hau‘oli Wichman, David “Kawika” Goodale, Lee Gushiken and Emily Cadiz, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.
