Kauai police arrested Jesus Cardel of Kilauea on Monday for suspicion of negligent homicide in the first degree.
Police said the 22-year-old was the driver of the Dodge pickup truck in a crash Saturday night that claimed the life of Travis Isobe, 28, Kilauea.
Cardel has been released pending investigation, according to a county press release.
Isobe, the son of the late musician Malani Bilyeu, died as a result of the head-on traffic crash on Kuhio Highway, in the vicinity of the Kahili Makai Street junction in Kilauea.
Police said shortly before 9 p.m., a white Dodge pickup truck was heading south when it apparently crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming black Ford Ranger truck driven by Isobe.
Cardel sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released at Wilcox Hospital.
