The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports the incident occurred during a traffic stop just after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday near the Kamehameha Shopping Center. Police say the officer shot at the driver as the suspect’s vehicle hit a police cruiser.
Officials say officers performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the suspect, but the adult male was pronounced dead about an hour after the shooting.
The officer who fired at the suspect was not injured. Police have launched an investigation into the shooting.
