HONOLULU — An attorney for a Hawaii man wanted on suspicion of attempted murder says his client surrendered to police because he thought they were closing in on him.
Honolulu police arrested 41-year-old Bronson Gouveia near the Helemano Military Reservation in Wahiawa on Monday after he had been on the run for nearly a month.
Police allege that Gouveia shot his girlfriend in Kahaluu on Dec. 23. Police say the woman’s head was grazed by the bullet.
Attorney Michael Green says Gouveia called him Sunday, fearing that police would shoot him on sight.
Green says he advised his client to turn himself in.
Police say Gouveia called authorities and gave his location.
