Waimea High School’s varsity boys basketball team (1-5) defeated Kapaa High School, 42-38, Thursday night at the Clem Gomes Gym in Waimea.
Waimea’s Wade Pimsaguan led the team with 20 points — 13 in the fourth quarter. Mayson Broyles scored 12 points for Waimea.
Kapaa’s Kamakana Gonzalez scored eight points, Alakai Gonsalves added seven, while Moses Ho and Michael Encinas each contributed six.
Kapaa won the junior varsity game against Waimea, 49-28. Akela Nu‘uhiwa-Gonda scored 13 points for the JV Warriors, and Aden Ringor scored 12 points for the JV Menehune.
The second round of the Kauai Interscholastic Federation boys basketball season starts Tuesday when Waimea hosts Kauai High School (6-0 KIF). The JV game will begin 5:30 p.m. and the varsity will follow.
Kapaa (2-4 KIF) next plays on Thursday at Kauai High.
