LIHUE — Kapaa High School’s varsity boys soccer team won this year’s Kauai Interscholastic Federation championship.
Kapaa (7-0-1 KIF, 22 points) clinched the league title with its 2-1 win over Kauai High School on Wednesday night at Vidinha Stadium.
Keanu Brown and Ryno Banasihan scored for Kapaa. Dodger Middlebrook scored for Kauai.
The Red Raider girls are one win away from an undefeated regular season.
Kauai High’s varsity girls soccer team (11-0-0 KIF, 33 points) defeated Kapaa, 3-1, on Wednesday.
Kehela Ventura scored two goals and Cheyann Fujii scored one for Kauai. Jaylana Ladera scored Kapaa’s lone goal.
Over in Puhi, Island School’s and Waimea High School’s varsity boys soccer teams played to a 1-1 draw Wednesday at the Island School campus.
Island School scored first on a Waimea own goal. Sean Mullikin scored the equalizer for the Menehune.
The KIF girls soccer season ends Saturday. Kauai will host Island School (0-11-0 KIF, 0 points) at 10 a.m. at Vidinha Stadium. Waimea (4-6-1 KIF, 13 points) will host Kapaa (6-4-1 KIF, 19 points) at 11:45 a.m. at Hanapepe Stadium.
Waimea’s varsity boys team (0-6-2 KIF, 2 points) will host Kapaa at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Hanapepe Stadium.
The Kapaa-Waimea boys game is closed to the public and media, and Kauai police will be present. The KIF executive board decided to close the game from the public for safety reasons following an altercation between the two teams during a match on Jan. 9.
Kauai’s boys team (3-4-2 KIF, 11 points) will host Island School (2-2-5 KIF, 11 points) at noon Saturday at Vidinha Stadium.
