HANALEI – The Hawaii Department of Transportation announced the closure of Kuhio Highway to all traffic between the Waikoko and Wainiha checkpoints from 8:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today.
This closure is needed to ensure safety during the installation of slope-stabilization measures, according to a press release. Crews will fly in a Tecco mesh system above the highway.
“All traffic, regardless of passes, must be cleared off the highway during the installation for their own safety,” the release said. “Protocols to suspend operations if needed for emergency response have been created and communicated with the project team.”
Affected convoys will be the 12:45 p.m. convoy from Wainiha out and the 1:15 p.m. convoy in from Waikoko.
