HONOLULU— Presidential candidate U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard is responding to criticism about her past work advocating against gay rights by recording a new YouTube video.
The nearly four-minute-long video released Thursday shows Gabbard standing outdoors in the snow apologizing for statements she made that were hurtful to LGBTQ people.
The Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii has apologized for such statements before. But she has come under renewed criticism since she announced during a CNN interview last week that she would run for president.
Gabbard campaigned against same-sex marriage with the group Alliance for Traditional Marriage and Values when she was a state representative in her 20s. Gabbard’s father founded the organization to lobby against same-sex marriage.
That’s the biggest problem with politicians, don’t have the guts to stand by their ideals and do anything to please the majority just to win office. I was thinking of voting for her, but because of her bias towards her Hindu influence and attempts to give preference over Hindu policies instead of concentrating on American values first and now this back tracking. I won’t vote for her.
I like her to a certain extent but I could never support her for President because she lets her religion control her decisions.
Sure… now that she wants to be elected to something important…Lie so people will vote for you!! It’s the American way!
It’s very sad when you have to give up your religious beliefs in order to get elected. I guess all politicians in the future will have to be atheists.
the story was cut short… she said that because of her family and their “conservative affiliations” meant that traditional marriage will be only with a man and woman like it should be period and liberals don’t?. it takes mega millions to run for the job and if she could raise the money then i suggest that she donate it to our schools and put air conditioning in every school in the state instead and remember never stop dreaming.
Didn’t we learn after the unremarkable and pathetic Presidency of Barack Hussein Obama that electing a person to be our President because they walk right, look good, and can read a teleprompter is a disaster for our Country? Tulsi should get some experience in the real world of business, creating a business from scratch, and making money the hard way before pretending in public that she’s Presidential material and deserving of running the biggest business in the World, the United States. She has never made a dime apart from the Government tit. First in the military, then as a politician. Don’t we deserve better than that? Didn’t our first Black President, who was the most destructive President since Johnson for our Black communities, that real life experience and character matter most in a President?
