KIPU — One person died and another was injured in a two-vehicle crash near Halfway Bridge on Kaumualii Highway about 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
According to a preliminary investigation, a Ford F150 pickup was heading west on Kaumualii Highway when it apparently crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming Ford F350 flatbed truck.
The driver of the F150, age 54, of Kalaheo, was transported by ambulance to Wilcox Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.
He is the first traffic fatality on Kauai this year.
The driver of the F350, a 32-year-old Lawai man, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Wilcox Medical Center via private vehicle.
Both lanes of traffic were reopened about 11 a.m.
How many head on collisions will it take until something is done? A center barrier would help or will it take the loss of someone in charge of our government until they wake up and fix the problems?
Condolences to those affected, but this could have been prevented, as well as other deaths if we would stop wasting money on projects that only put money into the pockets of those who approve them.
