If you’re looking for something community-minded to do on New Year’s Day, Luan Becerra has what you’re after.
He’s organizing a beach cleanup at Pine Trees in Hanalei starting at 1 p.m. today. He’ll be easy to find at a pop-up tent with a table, food, beverages and music.
Becerra said everything you’ll need — trucks and trash bags — will be ready. All you have to do is show up with a good attitude and a desire to beautify a beach.
He expects there may be a lot of garbage left behind thanks to a New Year’s Eve fireworks display.
“It’s perfect day to do it,” Becerra said.
The goal is to protect and preserve Kauai’s natural beauty, he added.
“We’re asking for help to make the Garden Isle a better place for everyone,” he said.
A videographer will be on hand to record the day’s efforts.
Another afternoon cleanup is set for Wednesday at Rock Quarry.
