HANALEI — Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge is closed until further notice due to a flash flood warning for the island of Kauai. The American Red Cross has opened a shelter at Hanalei Elementary School.
HANALEI — Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge is closed until further notice due to a flash flood warning for the island of Kauai. The American Red Cross has opened a shelter at Hanalei Elementary School.
This road closure includes the portion of Kuhio Highway that remains closed due to a landslide. Kauai police are currently on scene and state Department of Transportation officials are responding.
State DOT officials announce that the convoys on Kuhio Highway between Waikoko and Wainiha are temporarily suspended until further notice due to weather conditions. Officials are monitoring the highway and will provide updated information as it becomes available.
A flash flood warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads, and low-lying areas. Do not cross fast-flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. The warning may be extended, dropped or modified as conditions develop.
Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected. If you must drive, do so with extreme caution.
