Congratulations to Kauai Community College culinary arts students Angela-Rhey Ventura, Sean Austin and Phenny Prado on winning silver medals during the American Culinary Federation Culinary Salon competition last week on Oahu! The three students were doing culinary demos at the Kauai Community Market (it was definitely a Super Saturday!) at KCC, with products donated by Kauai Shrimp and the Kauai County Farm Bureau.

Elvrine Chow had the kadomatsu out for New Year’s, and she’ll have more this weekend, too.
You never know who you’ll meet when filing stories from Hofgaard Park (they’re one of the few places where there are picnic tables readily available), where the red-haired Saint Nicholas was on hand with Aunty Lilikoi chiffon pie (mahalo, Kendall Andersland!).
The dancers with Aloha Dance Studio did their final holiday performance Saturday to go with the Kukui Grove Center light show. But Melissa McFerrin-Warrack said Wally Nishimura will be doing ice carving following the Thursday market for the encore light show.
The Bill Marciel ohana has a new tradition — paina (the smoke meat was ono!) at the lawn of the Historic County Building while waiting for the Festival of Lights (they open for one last time Saturday!) to open. Kylie Moniz was there, and so were a lot of kiddies who totally loved frolicking under all those lights.
Merry Christmas, Kauai! Be safe!
