WAILUA — Music, mimes and speakers talking about sustainability and the feminine principal will be at Lydgate Park today for the ninth annual Wahine Fest, starting at 4 p.m at the main pavilion.
“It’s a festival to honor the mother in all of us as,” said Millicent Cummings, one of the event organizers.
The focus is on caring for the aina, making responsible decisions to prepare for the future, and celebrating the coming together of different cultures.
And while the festival celebrates feminine principals of growth and caretaking, community and motherhood, all are welcome and encouraged to attend.
“We’re honoring the feminine in all of us,” Cummings said, “Every man, woman and child.”
Speakers include County Councilmember Felicia Cowden, Puanani Rogers, Rhoda Libre, Hope Kallai and Astrid Drolson. Dancers Pua La‘a and Malia Locey will also be performing, as well as mime Janet Carafa.
It’s a lineup of comedy and potluck food, booths by Hui Hawaii Aloha Aina o Na Wahine, raffle prizes, a keiki craft corner, a kava ceremony and a “burning woman grand finale.”
Food includes authentic Indian cuisine.
“Love Tribe will close out the night, and so we’ll be able to dance our heads off to great music,” Cummings said.
