LIHUE — Registration for class field trips to “The Ocean that Connects Us” by upper elementary and middle school classes are currently being accepted, said Jean Souza, the Kauai programs coordinator for the Office of National Marine Sanctuaries.
Field trip dates are Jan. 22, 23, and 24 where up to 150 students can be accommodated from 8:30 a.m. until around noon at the Kukui Grove Center. Admission to “The Ocean that Connects Us” is free, but classes should be prepared to fund their bus trips to the shopping center.
“The Ocean that Connects Us” is a collaborative partnership of marine programs that will be offering a month-long exhibition at the Kukui Grove Center. Several of the Kukui Grove Center tenants have also indicated their participation in the exhibition that will also be open to the public.
During the field trips, students will be involved in a series of educational stations focusing around the exhibition. This includes a life-sized, inflatable, walk-in humpback whale.
Schools interested in registering for the field trips can contact Souza at 651-1457, or email Jean.Souza@noaa.gov.
