HONOLULU — Authorities say a 27-year-old man has died after falling from near the top of a waterfall in a popular hiking area on Oahu.
The man was found in the pool at the bottom of Manoa Falls on Monday morning after he fell more than 75 feet (23 meters).
Honolulu Fire Department officials say the man was airlifted to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Service officials say the man sustained a critical head injury.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the man’s name, saying his identification was pending.
Fire battalion chief Alan Carvalho says the man appeared to have been hiking alone.
