Mahalo to Juvie Bercasio for “the itchies,” and kudos to Josie Pablo (she’s the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation Kauai Region recreation director) and the entire Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital ohana on a great Christmas party for its residents and their families Friday evening (yep, it got moved from the daytime so everyone could come).

Mahalo to Rob Kubota of Pono Market, who got grandma’s house “all glitter” while his son, nephew and nieces made homemade craft-style bedside ornaments for the residents, and Gary Smith and the Kilauea Social Club (Donna Gushiken said the Kilauea Christmas tree is up at “the stone building!”) kept the place hopping with their unique Christmas caroling that even included steel guitar accompaniment.
Mayor Derek Kawakami (Monica Kawakami was looking for the tree they decorated with the campaign committee) did not miss the event this time, and Wilma Chandler, Rose Manago and Grace Delos Reyes made the event despite spending the morning with the Kauai Retired and Senior Volunteer Program 2018 annual recognition luncheon at the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort near Hanamaulu (you gotta go check out their Christmas decorations!).
Elsie Bayot of the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital activities staff made the trip over from the Westside to help despite having plans to participate in the Waimea Lighted Christmas Parade Saturday, and Josie said “the final big activity for the year” doesn’t end with the party, as they planned to have the residents enjoy the Shinbuyo Kai presentation Saturday at Kukui Grove Center.
