PRINCEVILLE — The annual Christmas Tea and Concert is set for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Princeville Public Library, offering treats and music by The Kilauea Social Club.
The Kilauea Social Club was started informally around 1980. At that time, members of the club were mostly childhood friends and classmates who had grown up during Kauai’s plantation days.
“Influenced by the backyard, unpolished and spontaneous music of the plantation and old Hawaii called ‘Kanikapila,’ we naturally carried on the tradition,” a press release explained. “Being totally unprofessional, we allowed neophytes to join in. In this way we continued to grow and gain new members, as the older members passed away. In this way we not only carry on our love for ‘Kanikapila,’ but their memories as well as others that inspire us.”
