Harpists Sylvia Woods and Madeleine Brandli will be performing two concerts this weekend.
The Fourth annual “Christmas Sing-Along with Harps Concerts” are set for 7 p.m. Saturday at The Church of the Pacific, Princeville, and 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Lihue
In addition to caroling, these festive concerts will also feature Christmas harp solos, duets and fun surprises.
The printed concert program will include the lyrics, so you can sing along.
“The great thing is, everybody loves harp music, whether they know it or not,” Woods said in a previous interview with TGI. “And every culture that’s developed the harp, it’s always been considered a magical or spiritual instrument. It touches people in a place that no other instrument seems to, and Kauai is such a special place. So I think it really fits in with the whole spirit of the island. People get to see the harps which they don’t often get to do here.”
Woods is a world-renowned Celtic harpist who lives in Princeville. She has owned property on Kauai since 1990 and moved here full time in 2013.
She owned the world’s largest harp store near Los Angeles for over 20 years, and has written, arranged and published over 50 books and pieces of sheet music.
Brandli plays the large concert pedal harp and lives part time in Honolulu.
As a singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist, she has won top awards in the Kauai Mokihana Festival composers contests since 2001, accompanying herself on piano, guitar and harp.
The singing will be led by Princeville musician Bob Smith.
“Celebrate the Holiday season in full voice!” according to a flier. “Singing Advent Carols and Christmas music brings great delight and joy. We hope you will join us for our fun concerts of holiday music!
Tickets are $15 at the door.
