The county switched to the Project 25/P25 communication system a while back. So if you intend on listening you’ll have to spend around $400 or more on a scanner that’s compatible. Uniden offers various models that you can find on Amazon. Get one and join the rest of us scanning enthusiasts.

‘Friends’ take stand for Kauai
The Friends of Mahaulepu should be commended for the support that they gave and the part that they played in helping the people of Ookala get the Big Island Dairy closed. Were it not for the Friends of Mahaulepu, we would have the same kind of environmental nightmare on Kauai.
It would be interesting to know if mayor-elect Kawakami still supports putting an industrial dairy in Mahaulepu.

Yeah, is Kawakami gonna sell out the South Shore to Omidiyar ? Is he that much in the pocket of the wealthy? The dairy industry is crashing because less people drink milk and here in Hawaii they’ve had to add in subsidies to just keep the dairies afloat. And these are NOT local businesses!! Any milk produced on Kauai would be sold to meadow farms which is a division of the giant Dean Foods. Even Dean Foods is scaling back milk production and switching to things like soy and nut milk. And obviously anyone who thinks building a giant dairy 500 yards from pristine reef is simply uneducated – this is basic environmental science! To recap: the dairy on Big Island gets shut down for destroying the local environment; it would only employ about 12 people; dairy industry is rapidly shrinking as milk demand diminishes; obviously a threat to the south side economy and environment; I’ve NEVER heard any large amount of support for this boondoggle from my friends (even farmers); and experience from the Big Island shows us exactly what to expect. Are we gonna be the fools who allow history to repeat itself in Mahaulepu?
Would love to join and start listening in to public safety, However just can’t afford a new scanner at that price right now.
