PUHI — Kupuna need to shop for loved ones, too, said Sharon Lasker of the Regency at Puakea assisted living and retirement community Wednesday.
The residents of the Regency and the community spent the day shopping and talking at the Regency’s annual Holiday Craft and Rummage Sale that featured 14 vendors, rummage, and a silent auction that overflowed the facility’s lobby. The event also featured a culinary special of Portuguese bean soup with cornbread, and bottled water created by the Regency’s culinary department.
“The residents have been shopping all day,” Lasker said. “They’re having fun browsing, buying, and just talking to other shoppers who visit. When we started this craft fair, it was for the benefit of the residents who needed to get holiday gifts for their loved ones.”
Dr. Kelley Robb was one of the shoppers, canvassing for things to create for her expected babies.
“I got the embroidery hoop at a store, but I need something to create a dream catcher with it,” Robb said. “There are a lot of things that would work for my babies.”
Kathryn Ledesma of Aphrodite’s Treasures in the Lawai Warehouse said she was captured, picking up a supply of hand-made greeting cards from Kathy Bates who had a neighboring table.
“This is just a hobby,” Bates said while tending to her mother Jeanne Palmer who celebrated her 100th birthday on Sept. 10. “Normally, I just give these away. Maybe I’ll turn over the proceeds from today’s sale to the Alzheimer’s Association.”
