A Thanksgiving rice drive to benefit the Kauai branch of Hawaii Foodbank is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Safeway in Hokulei Village.
Tamara Akau, Miss Garden Isle USA, and Kaytlen Akau, Miss Garden Isle Teen USA, will be will be asking customers to purchase rice and donate it to volunteers who will be at the checkstands.
The sisters have volunteered for the food bank’s events in past years and wanted to do something more to help those in need at Thanksgiving.
Rice is one of the most desired food products at Hawaii Foodbank and supplies are low.
“Please help feed Kauai residents in need by buying and donating bags of rice,” according to a flier.
