You did your duty and you voted in what is one of this island’s most anticipated contests. And for that, we thank you.
No, this is not for who will be our next mayor or serve on the County Council, but for The Garden Island’s annual Best of Kauai special section, which will be published on Sunday.
Earlier this year, we asked readers to fill out the ballot by writing in the name of the business that you believe is tops in its field.
There are six categories: Companies, Food and Dining, Health and Beauty, Locations and Activities, Retail and Services and Repair. And under those categories are basically subcategories, like bank, Realtor, tattoo shop, burger, pizza, dentist, golf course, luau, florist, surf shop, tire store, extermination service and veterinarian.
By participating, you had input on who is declared the Best of Kauai, which is significant in not only providing the winners with some bragging rights, but a lifetime of accolades and even a business boost that comes from TGI’s readers recognizing you are among the very best at what you do.
Generally, around 1,000 or so ballots are submitted.
We don’t want to spoil anything and tell you now who won. We can safety say there are some repeat winners. There are some first-time winners. Know that all of the businesses listed excel at what they do.
Votes, of course, were subjective as each of us has our own view of what makes a business the best. Service is always a strong consideration, as are quality, prices, products and hours. Attitude and aloha spirit top the list for many of why a business gets a vote. In general, we know that customers appreciate being greeted and appreciate friendly, prompt service.
We are blessed on Kauai with many business owners and employees who understand the importance and value of service and attitude and treat their customers like royalty.
A smile and hello and a thank you can go a long ways in earning a customer’s loyalty. And loyalty is important here.
So, dear readers, we left it up to you. And Sunday, your voices will be heard in The Best of Kauai.
Also coming on Sunday, we will hear from candidates for County Council in another special section. In their own words, they responded to a few questions from TGI. Our goal is a simple one: To give you, the readers, more information about the people who are asking for your vote. So, please, read what they have to say. The council candidates offer insights on several areas key to Kauai’s present and future. We’ll also have information about the county charter amendments, with Charter Commission member Jan TenBruggencate offering his personal explanation of why these are on the ballot and what they mean for Kauai.
