LIHUE — Hawaii gas prices increased for the sixth consecutive week throughout the islands but only by 1 or 2 cents in most areas, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.

Thursday’s statewide average price is $3.90 a gallon, which is 1 cent higher than last Thursday, 12 cents higher than a month ago and 79 cents more than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
Lihue’s average price for regular is $4.06, which is 1 cent higher than last Thursday, 6 cents higher than on this date last month and 70 cents more than a year ago.
In Honolulu, Thursday’s average price for regular is $3.79, which is 2 cents higher than last Thursday, 14 cents higher than on this date a month ago and 85 cents higher than on this date last year. The Hilo average price is $3.94, which is unchanged since last Thursday, 7 cents more than on this date last month and 81 cents higher than on this date a year ago.
“AAA Hawaii wants to remind motorists that they can save on gas using a consistent and gentle driving style with no ‘jack rabbit’ starts,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager. “Other tips include combining errands and shopping around for the best price possible using the free AAA Mobile app.”
Forget the AAA – let me remind everybody that gasoline is COSTCO is around 80 cents less than anywhere else on the island. How many gallons do you need to purchase to get your membership fee recovered? Of course you have to live near or drive by the Kukui Grove area, a bit far from Hanalei.
