LIHUE — Kapaa High School bowler Dana Murata rolled a high game 236 on Thursday to lead the Warrior wahine bowling team to a win during the Kauai Interscholastic Federation league bowling championships at the Kauai Bowl.
Murata, the leading girls individual average holder at 205, led the Warrior ladies to a 2,219 pinfall series total to force a playoff with the Kauai High School girls who finished the regular season tied with Waimea at a series total 1,987 pinfall led by Krysten Padasao at her high game of 178.
Waimea got a high game 177 from Louisa Tanigawa to end the night with a series total 2,064 pinfall.
Kauai Christian Academy turned to the high game rolled by Jana Sheatz at 172 to finish with a series total 1,987 pinfall for fourth place.
The Kapaa win forced a one-game roll off following the regular matches.
“The Kauai girls were nervous,” said Waimea coach Todd Ozaki. “But they settled down and ended winning the roll off on a 687 pinfall over Kapaa’s 640 pins to claim the KIF girls title.”
On the boys’ lanes, Kalani Young rolled a high game 225 to lead the Kapaa Warriors to a season-ending win at 2,361 pinfall series total, just 58 pins ahead of Kauai High School who finished the night with a 2,303 pinfall led by senior Alvin Reis rolling a high game 182.
Waimea’s Deighton Pablo-Otoman rolled a high game 198 to lead the Menehune boys to a 2,135 pinfall for third place.
Drake Hoyle was the sole boy bowler for Kauai Christian Academy, finishing the night with a high game 123.
Following the team play, individual average standings came into play to determine the individual bowlers that will make the Billy Tees Hawaii High School Athletic Association bowling championships that will contest at the Hickam Bowling Center on Oahu, Nov. 1 and 2.
Joining the girls team, Kapaa’s Murata, holding a 205 average, and Jennilyne Medina with a 159 average will be joined by Waimea’s Crystal Kamakea with a 152.2 average at the state meet.
On the boys’ lanes, individual qualifiers include Pablo-Otoman, leading the boys individual averages with a 201 average, Kauai High School’s Shayden Peralta with a 197 average, and Reis who holds a 193 average.
