James (Jim) Yang
1934-2018
James (Jim) Yang, 84, of Temple City, Calif., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born and raised in Honolulu, and was a 1953 graduate of Farrington High School.
He enlisted in the Army to serve in the Korean War. He then moved to California and graduated from California State University, Los Angeles, where he played football and majored in education. That is also where he met the love of his life, Ramona Ancheta, who was from Kapaa. They were married for 58 years.
He enjoyed a 30-year career at South Pasadena High School as a teacher, football coach and athletic director. He was elected into the South Pasadena Athletics Hall of Fame. He was an avid golfer and returned often to Hawaii over the years. His biggest love in life was spending time with his six grandchildren, who all loved him just as much.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Ramona of Temple City, children Michael (Dawn) of Del Mar, Calif., Corinne Carter (Bill) of Pasadena, Calif., and Randall (Anita) of Pasadena, Calif., grandchildren Katie Carter Elia, Alison, Jameson, Jillian, Haley and Taylor Yang, and sister Loretta Kam of Aiea, Oahu.
Funeral services will be held at St. Luke’s Church in Temple City, Calif., at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25.
