Two die in Kawaihau crash
KAPAA — Two people died in a crash on Kawaihau Road near the Makaleha Place intersection Friday night.
The decedents have been identified as 39-year-old Shane Duncan and 33-year-old Sanoe Soares, both of Kapaa.
According to a preliminary investigation, Duncan was heading west on Kawaihau Road at roughly 10 p.m., on a 2008 Suzuki motorcycle with Soares on board. Duncan apparently failed to negotiate a right-hand curve in the roadway, crossed over the center line, and collided with an oncoming 2014 Jeep SUV.
As a result of the crash, Soares was ejected from the motorcycle and trapped under the SUV, until firefighters arrived and extricated her. Medics arrived on scene and transported her to Wilcox Medicl Center where she was pronounced dead.
Duncan sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by medics to Wilcox, where he later died.
The driver of the Jeep, a 53-year-old Kapaa woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Wilcox, where she was treated. She has since been released.
Kawaihau Road was closed in both directions for about four hours while traffic investigators conducted an on-scene investigation.

why no mention of alcohol or drugs involved? maybe locals?
Were the decedents wearing helmets?
Ms. Jones. Two young local people just died in a terrible accident and you question why the article didn’t mention if drugs or alcohol were involved. Maybe there were none involved. What were you inferring with your ‘maybe locals?’ comment? Seems that you assume that if it was locals, then drugs or alcohol must have been involved. Am I wrong? Seems you are a bit prejudiced.
