Alfredo “Al” Carbonel Jr., 62, of Omao, passed away on Sept. 21, 2018, at his home.
Born on April 1, 1956 in Lihue, he was a math teacher at Kauai High School, and was retired from the U.S. Air Force as an officer.
He was preceded in death by parents Alfredo Sr. and Aida Carbonel.
He is survived by wife Ruth Kalili of Omao, sons Alan (Katherine) Carbonel of Montana and Aston Carbonel of Omao, daughters Kristie (Marlon) Cadiente of North Carolina, Alison Carbonel of California and Ashleigh (Shawn) Remigio of Eleele, three grandchildren, brother Albert (Tina) Carbonel of Koloa, sisters Lorraine (Mike) Schmidt of Wailuku and Arlene (Adolfo) Carbonel-Santana of Lawai, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery pavilion in Hanapepe from 10 a.m., where services will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. Burial will follow.
The family suggests casual attire and advises bringing umbrellas.

Sidney Seiki Ikehara, 77, of Hanapepe, passed away on Oct. 5, 2018, at his home in Hanapepe.
Born on March 17, 1941 in Waimea, he was a retired warehouse manager with Koa Trading and Big Save, and also served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by father Seikichi Ikehara, mother Tsuruko Ueunten Landon, sister Sally Adolfo and brother Denis Ikehara.
He is survived by wife Regina K. Ikehara of Hanapepe, son Wade (Jackie) Ikehara, daughter Robyn (Justin) Murakawa of California, five grandchildren, brother Clinton (Setsuko) Ikehara of Kauai, brother-in-law Christologo Adolfo of California, sister-in-law Rosita Ikehara of Kauai, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe, with visitation at 9:15 a.m. and services at 10 a.m. Inurnment will follow.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Gerald W. ‘Naliko’ Markel
Gerald W. “Naliko” Markel, 62, of Pahoa, Hawaii, passed away on Oct. 10, 2018, at Wilcox Medical Center.
Born on Jan. 19, 1953, in Pennsylvania, he is survived by wife Michele Markel, sons Patrick (Jen) Markel, David (Kimberley) Markel and Naliko (Gina) Markel, daughters April “Keala (Scott) Kadooka, nine grandchildren, brother Nelson (Paulette) Markel, sister Patricia Gore, and numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. at the Kalihiwai Beach House.
