HANAPEPE — The Hanapepe Colts and the Kapaa Eagles each notched two wins apiece Saturday when the Kauai Pop Warner Football League hosted six football games at the Hanapepe Stadium.
After being shut down, 31-0 by the Lihue Raiders in a Flag Football game, the Hanapepe Colts rebounded with a 30-0 shutout over the Koloa Rams in a Junior PeeWee division game.
Nohili Ragragola fueled the shut out with a pair of touchdowns — a 1-yard in the first half, and a 1-yard charge in the second half — and a pair of point-after-touchdown kicks. Keona Tam added a 36-yard scoring run, Kule‘a Kauwe pulled the pigskin for 14 yards in the first half, and Connor Mullikin booted a PAT in the first half to add to the final math.
Kaena Henderson fueled the second Colts’ victory — a 35-7 win over the Kekaha Titans in the Mighty Mites division — with three touchdowns, two coming in the first half on scoring runs of 22 yards and 25 yards, respectively.
Daniel Ka‘aumoana kept the Titans from being shut out after finding open ground on a 50-yard touchdown run and graced the score with a successful PAT run.
Kailen Henderson added to Kaena’s contributions after finding the end zone in the second half at the end of a two-yard charge, and added to the overall math with a pair of PAT kicks.
The Colts’ signal-caller Kanoa Naumu completed the picture with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Daxson Locquiao-Siliado in the first half, and capped that score on a PAT keeper rush.
The Kapaa Eagles survived a strong Kekaha Titan challenge in the Flag Football afternoon opener, 30-24, and used that momentum to fire up a 25-6 win over the Titans in the afternoon JPW division game.
Nainoa Melchor fueled the Eagles’ JPW win by running for two scores and passing for a TD — all in the first half.
Melchor capped the first scoring drive with a 12-yard run to the end zone, and Nash Burkhart took the pigskin for the PAT to give the Eagles an early 7-0 bulge.
Kekaha answered the challenge when Ikaika Miyashiro broke out for a 61-yard scoot to paydirt. The point-after failed to give the Eagles a 7-6 edge that was broken when Nainoa found Eli Nikolas in the end zone for a 30-yard scoring pass.
The Eagles’ special teams’ Nainoa Simmons upped the ante on a 70-yard punt return for the 19-6 margin.
Melchor capped the win on a keeper play for 10 yards for the 25-6 final after the PAT failed.
Kekaha closed out the day on a winning note when its Junior Varsity Titans’ quarterback Kameron Apilado passed for two touchdowns and Haweo Akeo booted two PATs for the 16-0 win that came in the second half.
Apilado broke the 0-0 stalemate at the break by finding Makenyah Okeigar in the end zone on a 37-yard pass, Akeo settling the scoreboard at 8-0 with his first PAT boot.
The JV Titans’ signal-caller completed the outing by finding Noah Delanoza at the end of a 29-yard scoring pass with Akeo doing the final PAT boot.
Kauai Pop Warner Football League will host its next series of games, Sunday at Vidinha Stadium starting from 7:30 a.m.
