Adam Roversi deserves to be on county council
Reflecting on the Community Coalition of Kauai Forum, it seemed to me that Adam Roversi stood head and shoulders above all other candidates. On several occasions, Adam’s remarks elicited spontaneous clapping from the public. He addressed the concerns about growth management and future land use by saying that the No. 1 consideration for any growth has to be what is wanted by the community impacted.
At one point, Adam remarked that the reason we don’t have expiration dates on permits or why we are still using Styrofoam, to name a few things, is because the current and previous councils haven’t found this to be important enough to act on it!
I encourage everyone interested in our future on Kauai to attend some of the forums being held. We so urgently need some new blood on the council and, fortunately, we have some very fine candidates running. Please get out and vote.
Adam Roversi is our No. 1 pick, followed by Mason Chock, Felicia Cowden and Luke Evslin. These four candidates have stated that working together to address the issues facing the county is a high priority. Fancy “working together” — such a novel concept given the current council!

Senator Hirono out of line with comment about men
The Garden Island on Friday, Sept. 21, printed a front-page headline quoting Sen. Mazie Hirono (D) and I have purposely waited this long to respond to what she said. I needed to keep my emotions in check, however, today once again Hirono in Washington, D.C., repeated for the television cameras what she had said earlier. Hirono: “I just want to say to the men in this country: Just shut up and step up. Do the right thing for a change.”
I’m a 89-year-old female and that statement of hers made me livid. She has just slandered every man in this country and falsely accused them by innuendo of being sexual predators (something she needn’t ever worry herself about).
Every male in this country who has reached puberty and on into adulthood should be outraged. All of them should be answering her despicable charge. Our entire Constitution is at risk here. What’s happening to “You’re innocent until proven guilty?”
It seems that the only people tagging along with Hirono are the Democrats who are making this Judge Kavanaugh appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court a political football.
If that’s what the Democrats want, I hope that every person who is able to vote, especially the men, remember her words and vote her out of office. She’s a total embarrassment, not just to our state of Hawaii, but to the entire United States of America.
Gini Stoddard, Lihue
Spot on Ms. Stoddard. Senator Hirono represents a sad descent of the Democrat leadership in Washington, DC. She is more a Maxine Waters type than a Daniel Inouye type.
First, it’s “Democratic Leadership.” We’re named the “Democratic Party” and it’s just very petty disrespect to use a different name. How would you like being called “Wally da Robber?”
Your comment only has a “Beginning,” it has no “Middle” or “End.” The Middle is evidence and/or a reasoned argument supporting the premise stated in the Beginning.
I get it though, lot’s of people hit the the “send” button with their head as they’re nodding off!
Gini, I gather you are a Republican?
Let’s begin with the most inane thing Stoddard blithers. Sen. Hirono doesn’t have to worry about being sexually assaulted. We all know what she means by this antiquated victim shaming attitude of her generation, the senator isn’t a scantily clothed, buffed out 30 year old who is just “asking for it!”
Listen up, as an 89 year old female, you are more at risk for sexual assault than that 30 year old is because she also looks like she could put up some real resistance. Stranger attacks are about vulnerability, not attractability.
Next, Stoddard completely misunderstands the challenge made. “Shut up” refers to victim shaming like “Why did she go/drink/not fight/not report/ask for it?” “Step up” means to have the courage to step away from the Man Pack doing that shaming and starting to believe women society has suppressed. “Do the right thing” means report, prevent, don’t cooperate with, or otherwise support sexual assault and to support instead, the victims, whether it be 35 years or 35 minutes!
Stoddard’s blithering, partisan side trip, void of accurate comprehension, proves why her generation gets a well earned D- for any issue related to sex!
Great letter Gini! Hirono has made a complete fool of herself for years, and should be ashamed! But of course, she’s not mature enough to look in the mirror. She represents Hawaii, and has hurt us too many times because of her stupidity and obvious lack of intelligence. She’s done absolutely nothing for our State, except embarrass herself, you, and all of Hawaii in front of world. Time to put the embarrassment out to pasture!
An effective comment would include some of the more serious times Hawaii has been “hurt” as part of it’s argument; but, Oswald is LAZY, like those on FOX, and only provides negative descriptions with no supporting evidence. It’s a sign of the times and the lack of leadership he adores!
Great job, Mazie. Keep it up!
Great letter in the pompous embarressment Mazie Hirono. What a worthless gasbag she is. Her claim to fame is trashing all men? Gee, how brilliant eh?
I get so tired of all of these totalitarians who call themselves progressive for whatever reason.
Two points for Gini Stoddard:
First, there was no such slander in calling on men to stand up and do the right thing. Senator Hirono was obviously referring to the urgent need for men to stand up against the sexual harassment and assault of people by other men.
Second, have you forgotten how Senate Republicans stalled for over 400 days, refusing to take up President Obama’s appointment to the Supreme Court?
Your Red slip is showing Ms. Stoddard and you should be embarrassed.
Let’s let the great Ann Coulter have the final word:
“Apart from people kicked in the head by a horse, name one human, ever, from the dawn of time, dumber than Sen. Mazie Hirono.”
Just one human Hutch?
I can come up with two right off the bat! Donald Trump and you!
Where’s the ALOHA?
AMERICA!!! YOU HAVE BEEN PUT ON NOTICE, PACK YOUR TRASH AN EXIT IMMEDIATELY….
HAWAII’ANKINGDOM.ORG
Gini, I guess you( and Mr. Antonson) don’t know the Hawaii way of speaking. All she (Hirono) is saying, ” Men if you did wrong , be a man and admit to your wrong. Why fight it? The truth will come out if you are right or wrong.” Just because she used the word “men” doesn’t mean it to all men. You guys taking things to deep, “chill out why don’t you?!”
Sorry Mr. Antonson, I miss understood your comment. My deepest apologies! My bad.
Ain’t it funny how most trump supporters really need his 5th grade language skills? Here’s another example of miscomprehension of Sen. Hirono’s statement delivered with refined, educated, adult language skills.

Schirona is none too bright! Watched her debate
Lingle and got her lunch eaten! I thought Lingle would win the seat? But the poorly educated voted for mazee? Ignorance is Bliss!
If you are a man; why would you ever vote for Crazy Mazie?!!
Ms Stoddard, have you ever been sexually assaulted? I have and Mazie’s comments accurately reflect the rage that we victims feel. It all came back again yesterday. We’re DONE being characterized as the culprits while the (mostly male) perpetrators get hailed as victims.
How sad it is that so many want to get rid of Hirono for (perhaps) the only time she actually stood for something.
No one cared about her conflating the Democratic Super-Delegates with the Electoral College at last May’s townhall. But now that she is trying to make amends for her silence about the “sexual indiscretions” of Daniel Inoyue (which got her elected to the US House of Representatives) so many are “piling on” in an attempt to discredit Hirono. There are so many other reasons to dislike Hirono, it is incredible that (apparent) Trump supporters would choose this issue. It makes them look silly.
Kavanaugh showed himself at the hearings Thursday to be the thoughtless jerk he is. Ms. Ford showed herself to be a woman of true class. But many Americans thing Mr. “grab ’em by the pussy” speaks for them because he expresses their anger. They have every right to be angry, but to think Trump is going to fix their problems is just insane.
Zwiebel watched the wrong hearing? Antonson is the blind off Island troll he has always been. Forgive them. For Craig, have you forgotten that the stalling on Mr. Obama’s appointee was because the next election was for President of the United States? There is very strong precedent for it! Garland was presented in late March and the Presidential campaign’s were in full swing. Every other commercial on TV were for Trump or Hillary! Craig has to spin that heated short period of time before the election into “400 days”! What a joke. What else can we believe from the spin misters? Answer? NOTHING! The President picks the Supreme Court Justices, and when a Presidential election is looming the voters get a chance to chime in. AND THEY DID!
