More to the story than the headline
Yes, Terry Allen is “Still doing dentistry” because he’s one of the best on the island. You do a disservice to your paper for this headline (TGI, Sept. 22).
I’ve known Terry, and used his professional services while as owner of Kalaheo Dental Group, and followed him after his sale of this company to a future competitor. The Allens cannot say it, but I understand they have been in litigation with the buyer and current owner of Kalaheo Dental Group. Word on the street is that this is a trumped-up charge.
You may want to dig a little deeper before risking such a destructive headline.

Photo was a real stinker
Let me start by saying I look forward to reading The Garden Island news with coffee and bagel in hand each and every morning.
Monday, Sept. 24 I nearly threw up with a photo that appeared accompanying an article titled, “Kapaa portable toilets haven’t been cleaned for 3 weeks.”
Why would TGI publish such a classless photo showing an abundance of human feces that looked like diarrhea? A description would had been adequate.
When somebody is in an auto accident and is badly injured you show discretion and don’t show severed limbs or dead bodies.
I am still one of the biggest fans and supporters of TGI, however was blown away by the photo that accompanied that story. The photo left a bad taste in my mouth, no pun intended.
The only thing I can figure out is that the county is trying to curb tourism, and what better way to do it than have the most disgusting restrooms on the planet? Let this photo circulate via the HTA and HCVB and tourism will definitely decline!
With that said I ride by those porta-potties three to five days a week on my bike and the stench is horrendous. They are located right on the edge of the pedestrian trail. They should be off at least 200 feet to the makai side away from people utilizing the trail.
The shape of those porta-potties is totally unacceptable. The only way left is to find a magician to perform magic and clean them up.
Maybe “The Great Poodini” (sic) is available? Jokes aside, not only are the porta-potties full of it, so is somebody on the county payroll, and you know who you are. The County of Kauai can now claim to be number one in the number two business. No more excuses. It’s time to step up to the plate and quit blaming the other guy.
James “Kimo” Rosen, Kapaa
What bothered me about the ugly photo is the fact that people actually went in those porta-pots and used/added to that mess. They walk among us.
Hey, how about the anonymous comment “entity” come out from behind it’s anonymous anger and let everyone know who “it” is. Keeping company with angry, life hating, liberals must be a downer? Perhaps “it” should change the company it keeps? “It”, please quit hanging around those who made horrible decisions growing up and hate the world because they disappointed themselves and their families so. They can rub off on ya! Perhaps we should have a little “social” event and call it “enlightenment”? Everyone should start hanging around the successful, happy, life loving, winners! It’ll do miracles for one’s disposition! Have a wonderful day, and remember, DON’T WORRY! The sun will come up tomorrow!
Maybe we should examine the life and causes of the stereotypical aging, white, male, conservative who benefited from so called “free stuff,” social programs, and government infrastructure when younger; but, now, when it’s his turn to support others arriving to that position, plays the “strict father” role and declares that “these kids today” and all those menacing hordes that have a different color, or religion, or ideas, or political beliefs are just lazy, no good, and undeserving of his support. He keeps the ball the neighbor kids kick into his yard. He wants Washington, as a strict father, to treat other countries without respect, like misbehaving children, and bestow a form of so called “tough love” as US Foreign Policy until they do our bidding. The same tough love approach, using program cuts, will be taken toward all his fellow citizens who are too lazy or no good to have become successful, as he has with the flawed memory of a completely independent, Norman Rockwell style earlier life. All in all, the makings of a pathetic bigot.
I agree with Mr. Rosen. That photo was completely classless. There was no reason to post that! Also, as he states, there should be no more excuses. Just find a way to get it done. I ride by there on my bike from time to time, and it smells awful. If taking care of those potties were under my job description, I would be ashamed, much less run for office!
Kimo , “I too agree with you !” TGI should place that photo in their lunchroom.
“coffee and bagels in each hand”, such tallent Kimo! (smiles!)
My apologies Kimo. I reread your first line in the letter, “it’s coffee and bagel in hand.” My bad!
