Barbara Oki said saimin was invented in Hawaii because when the first immigrants (the first Portuguese arrived in Hawaii on Sept. 30, 140 years ago!) arrived, there was no saimin. Barbara said she wants to resurrect the tradition of old-style saimin with won ton and the saimin stand style saimin like her uncle had, starting Wednesday at her shop at the Kukui Grove Center. OK, gotta go check that one out.

Congratulations to Rev. Alex Tychin who was duly installed as the pastor and teacher at Lihue United Church. Rev. Alex was busy helping at the church’s annual Labor Day Breakfast earlier in the month. Now, it’s official.
And kudos to Kalani Vierra, our Ocean Safety Bureau chief, tandem surfing world champion with Kristyl Apeles, and one of the founders of the Kauai Junior Lifeguards, on being inducted into the Duke Kahanamoku Watermen Hall of Fame! That ceremony took place on Oahu after being post-poned by the weather, recently.
OK, time to go check out the KIF volleyball that starts Round 2, tonight.
