Tori was back on the route (great venue, Kauai Ranch above Kealia!), with Juliana Tampus and the Kapaa High School girls Saturday, where Brandon Moises had to get up super early to return the homecoming car before getting to the race site.

Kudos to Waimea High School on a great homecoming football matchup where you could hear the overflow of Gerald Hirata’s International Peace Day celebration taking place at the Kauai Soto Zen Temple Zenshuji and benefiting the Eleele School fourth-grade class and its upcoming, off-island class trip.
More kudos to Pearl Shimizu, Art Umezu and the Kauai Japanese Cultural Society (was good to see Myles Shibata get to come home) on a great 33rd Matsuri, where Ann and Ruth Hashisaka (congratulations to Mabel and Norman Hashisaka on being award recipients during the aloha gala celebration) were able to keep up with the demand for all those bento and snack packs!
Of course, it’s always nice to see the Miyazaki girls involved (boy, that fresh-cooked mochi smelled ono!) along with the Kauai Bonsai Club (Bobby Girald even got visits from Kauai County Councilmembers Arthur Brun, Ross Kagawa and Arryl Kaneshiro), which is working with Art on getting the Isenberg Garden ready for its re-dedication as part of the gannenmono celebration of the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii.
