When you’re a local boy living in New York, the call of poke and sushi can be pretty loud, and Kauai Society of Artists juror Maika‘i Tubbs had to take a break before settling down to work the entries for the Art Kauai 2018 show that opens this weekend at the Kukui Grove Center gallery.

Kudos to Jose Bulatao and Alan Villaflor on super performances by the dancers of Bailes de Jose and the Paraluman dancers during the Grove Farm Museum’s Sugar Plantation Bash! The wide open yard at the museum was perfect for allowing the dancers ample room to perform, and Scott Johnson and Buddy Victorino had Paulo fired up and tooting its pee-yu whistle between entertainment acts.
More kudos to the Kauai Christian Academy for fielding enough bowlers (although several were stuck in traffic) to become team scoring. More KCA athletes were with the Kapaa High School air rifle team, and four of them made the trek to Waimea High School for the cross country invitational!
Kudos, too, to Fran Roach, Kellie Hines and the Hokuala Golf Club (it’s so chicken skin to see Pono Tokioka and Daesha Tomas working there) on hosting the Hawaii Junior Golf Association’s Kauai Junior Classic, and congratulations to Kade Kikuchi (and where was grandpa with the camera?) on winning the Boys 11-12 Flight at the tournament.
