KEKAHA — A stand-off in Kekaha ended tragically Wednesday with the death of two people in an apparent murder-suicide.
Police were called to Elepaio Road at 2 p.m. by a man who reported that shots were fired and threatened to kill himself, according to police.
A 53-year-old man died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, while the second victim, a 50-year-old female, died of an apparent gunshot wound.
Officers arrived on scene soon after and attempted to make contact with the individual at his home. No response was made after multiple attempts of contact.
After establishing a perimeter, Kauai Police Department’s special services team and crisis negotiators arrived at approximately 4 p.m.
After multiple failed attempts at contact, police entered the home at around 6:15 p.m. and found the pair dead.
This is an ongoing investigation.
According to Alden Alayvilla, spokesperson for the County of Kauai, the person who shot himself called police dispatch saying that shots had been fired.
