The National Weather Service says Hurricane Lane is starting to weaken as it slowly moves north toward the Hawaiian islands of Maui and Oahu.
The National Weather Service has downgraded Hurricane Lane to a tropical storm, but rains could still bring flooding and damaging winds to parts of the main Hawaiian Islands.
Lane had maximum sustained winds of 70 mph and was moving northwest at 3 mph as of 5 p.m. Friday.
It was 220 miles west of Hilo, 150 south-southwest of Honolulu and 200 miles south-southeast of Lihue.
Lane dumped nearly 3 feet of rain on parts of the Big Island, triggering landslides and flooding homes. Some Maui roads suffered landslides. But Oahu residents have so far experienced wind gusts and scattered rain showers.
