LIHUE — Government officials continue to monitor Hurricane Lane as it approaches the island chain and slowly moves towards Kauai.
KILAUEA — The American Red Cross Shelter at Kīlauea Gym remains open at this time but is expected to close at 4 p.m. Shelters may open on an as-needed basis. Please do not report to any of the other shelters until an announcement has been made that they are open.
Kuhio Highway in Wainiha is closed
According to the state Department of Transportation, Kūhiō Highway between Waikoko and Wainiha will remain open on a holiday/open convoy schedule on Saturday, weather permitting.
Bus service
All bus services and routes will be closed on Saturday, Aug. 25 and will resume on Sunday, Aug. 26.
Water service
The Department of Water lifted the islandwide water conservation notice for most of its customers as of noon Saturday.
Residents in Haena-Wainiha areas are asked to continue water conservation efforts until further notice; limiting water use to essential needs only, due to weather conditions and possible rising stream levels in the area. Additionally, the water service shutdown for customers located on a portion of Kuhio Highway in Haena; between the Manoa Stream and Ke’e Beach will remain in effect until further notice.
Mail service
There will be no mail delivery and all post offices on Kauai will be closed on Saturday; there will be no mail pickup from blue USPS mail boxes
Recycling
HI-5 Redemption Centers operated by Kaua‘i Community Recycling Services and Reynolds Recycling will be closed through the weekend.
The public is encouraged to hold on to their non- HI-5 recyclables at this time, as the Kaua‘i Recycles drop bins are filling up faster than the contractor can service them.
