Tropical Storm Lane, as of 5 p.m. today, is 220 miles west of Hilo, 150 miles south-southwest of Honolulu and 200 miles south-southeast of Lihue.
It is moving northwest at 3 mph with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Hurricane Lane was downgraded to a tropical storm.
Tropical storm or hurricane conditions are possible on Kauai starting tonight or Saturday, AccuWeather reported.
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued and the Hurricane Watch has been cancelled for Kauai Leeward, Kauai Mountains, Kauai Windward, and Niihau.
Despite weakening, the storm could still bring strong winds and rains to Kauai.
A brown water advisory has been issued across all of Hawaii due to the significant amount of water flowing into the ocean.
“Hurricane Lane has resulted in stormwater runoff entering into coastal waters. The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris,” the Hawaii Department of Health said.
A disaster declaration was approved for Hawaii by President Donald Trump as Hurricane Lane bears down on the islands.
“I have authorized an emergency disaster declaration to provide Hawaii the necessary support ahead of Hurricane Lane. Our teams are closely coordinating with the state and local authorities,” President Trump Tweeted on Thursday.
