Kauai to receive federal funding for buses
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced that the counties of Kauai, Hawaii and Maui will receive $1.5 million from the Federal Transit Administration to purchase or lease new zero- or low-emission transit buses.
“Investing in new clean buses means that the many residents on Hawaii Island, Kauai and Maui who depend on public transit to get to school or work every day will continue to have an affordable, reliable way to get around,” said Schatz. “This federal funding will help ease traffic congestion and cut commute times, all while reducing carbon pollution.”
The grant, which was awarded due to the joint efforts of the state Department of Transportation and the counties of Hawaii, Kauai and Maui, will also help fund the facilities and equipment necessary to maintain the new fleet.

Must be a typo, 1.5 million is only 2 buses. For 3 islands????

But I guess you can lease, make new facilities, then when the money runs out ( the day is lands in the pockets ) just raise taxes to continue on.
And how will this help with congestion? Or commute time?
Is there a shortage of buses?
I hope it’s the comically-large electric bus they had over here a few months ago. Those buses are especially easy to see into so you can clearly see how empty they are! Plus their large size makes them look ridiculous sitting in our daily traffic jams – which are a direct result of our leadership being unable to find and construct a normal 4 lane highway between our 2 main population centers. So sure! Bring in huge goofy looking electric buses for our tiny island. Have them stuck in traffic too! One idea if you’re trying to reduce pollution- build a wider road so thousands of hours of idling traffic isn’t causing it in the first place. Sorry if my logic offends anyone!
