LIHUE — By turning in her ballot, Frances Carreira helped determine who’s the Best of Kauai, and won a trip to Vegas as well.
And her votes had nothing to do with politics. This was all business.
The Lihue woman’s name was drawn from more than 1,000 ballots that were turned in for TGI’s popular Best of Kauai special section.
Carreira arrived at TGI’s office on Thursday to claim her prize of a Vacations Hawaii trip for two to Vegas and $500. She was in a cheery mood and looking forward to this adventure. Her daughter Charolette Rapozo, who accompanied her on Thursday, will be joining her mom for the excursion that includes airfare and a hotel stay and definitely lots of fun.
The 91-year-old said this is the first time she’s won anything, and was excited when TGI called to tell her the good news.
The results of this year’s Best of Kauai voting will be published in a special section on Oct. 28.
There are six categories: Companies, Food and Dining, Health and Beauty, Locations and Activities, Retail and Services and Repair. And under those categories are basically 96 subcategories, like bank, Realtor, tattoo shop, burger, pizza, dentist, golf course, luau, florist, surf shop, tire store, extermination service and veterinarian.
Some will repeat in first place. Some rookies will claim the top spot.
When voting, people considered many factors, including service, quality, prices, products and hours. Attitude and aloha spirit top the list for many of why a business gets their vote.
Ballots was available in TGI in July.
We look forward to publishing the results and thank everyone who cast votes to make this annual promotion another success.
