HANAMAULU — Police and fire personnel responded to a single-vehicle crash that resulted in a vehicle fire along Kuhio Highway in Hanamaulu Monday night.
No injuries were reported.
According to police, a 76-year-old male of Hanamaulu was traveling north on Kuhio Highway, near Hanamaulu Road, shortly before 9:30 p.m. While attempting to stop along the northbound shoulder of the highway, the vehicle malfunctioned and then collided with the guy-wire of a utility pole. The driver exited the vehicle, a 1999 silver Toyota Corolla, shortly before it caught fire.
Kuhio Highway was closed in both directions for about 30 minutes, while firefighting crews worked to extinguish the blaze.
No arrests or citations were issued as a result of this crash.
The vehicle is considered a total loss.
